Hi! My name is Keri Carter. I am an intern therapist here at Mending Minds.
Some fun things to know about me is that I have two dogs that are my world, and I am always down for an adventure. My favorite thing to do is go kayaking or hiking with family or friends. While I enjoy going to the gym, I can never turn down a sweet treat (ice cream is my favorite.) You can always find me binging tv shows or movies with my favorites being Golden Girls and Lord of the Rings.
My Journey to Therapy
My desire to become a therapist has been fueled by the memories of those in my life who I have lost to suicide. With the loss of my friend at the age of thirteen and the loss of a family friend at seventeen, I quickly learned that life is hard enough as it is. You do not need to do it alone.
Growing up in a rural community, I saw firsthand the effects of limited access to mental health care. This drove me to pursue a career where I could make a difference in people's lives and be the support that so many need but often can't find.
Education & Background
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Southern Utah University and am currently pursuing my master's degree in clinical mental health counseling. My therapeutic interests center on trauma, domestic violence, and sexual assault recovery.
My Approach
I believe that clients are the experts in their own stories. My role is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences, feelings, and goals at your own pace.
I employ person-centered approaches and use authenticity and humor as healing tools. I believe that genuine connection is at the heart of effective therapy, and I strive to create an environment where you feel comfortable being yourself.
